Reviewers liked how:

    • These feeders were easy to clean
    • The food did not dry out
    • The compartments are small and deep, which slows down their cat’s eating

Amazon reviewer Heather uses this feeder only for wet food and has some helpful tips:

  • I color coded the tray sections so that when I pulled the tray out I knew with portion to fill ensuring that the cats got the meal when I am not home.
  • I purchased extra trays and covers for the cat sitter to pull out of the freezer when I am out of town.
  • I purchased cooler shock cold packs (4) to put under the catsfuy (just the meal portions) when I am gone. I am experimenting at night with a cold pack to make sure breakfast is still good.
  • Normally I prefer not to refrigerate my cat food (because one of them likes it at room temp) so I got X-Chef 8oz containers and I suck the air out of them and leave them at room temp on the counter, until the next feeding.

WOPET Automatic Cat Food Dispenser with Programmable Camera

My husband actually has security camera set up in our house so that when we’re on vacation he can pull up his phone and see how the cats are doing.

If that idea immediately makes you perk up (and/or you just love using apps), then the WOPET might be the automatic feeder for you. It’s a smart pet feeder that lets you to schedule and manage feeding times, portion sizes, and food supply for your pets via your smartphone or computer.

On the app you choose how much food you want it to dispense, you can give the feeding a title (say, Breakfast or Dinner), and you can add a pre-recorded personalized voice message to play when it dispenses the meal. You can use a different recording for each meal if you want to (“Good morning, time for breakfast!”)

It plays the recording three times in a row, just in case they’re asleep, or … I don’t know, not paying attention.

Reviewers liked the battery backup, how you can adjust the feeding remotely, and how easy it is to clean.

Amazon reviewer Blue Moon Mom & Dad says that not only is this feeder extremely helpful, but it’s made feeing their cats fun:

This feeder is working great for me and my fur babies …

The app sends a notification to your phone for every feeding, which prompts me to go in app and check the camera, to make sure all 3 are getting to eat. I can also hear them to make sure they aren’t growling at each other, which thank goodness they eat together fine. But if they didn’t you can also talk to them in real time from the app.

I really like how the app is set up so you can see the camera on the top half of the screen, and the bottom of half you can choose to take a photo, record, listen, or talk. Or you can click the full screen to enlarge the full picture.

The only thing I really think could have used improvement is the camera angle seems a bit high, for when they have their heads up close and in the bowl. I can only see the top of their heads. However, I don’t know though, because if it were lower it would be too close and if it were higher you wouldn’t see them at all … I have found the app to be very easy to understand, operate and navigate.

Overall I have found this to not only meet the needs of fine tuned portion control, but also many other neat features that have made feeding my cats so convenient and most of all FUN! Not only am I feeding them more responsibly to prevent over feeding, but I’m actually enjoying being able to interact with them when I’m not home, checking to make sure they are okay. And it holds alot of food so it’s never a chore to feed. I really like this and now that I’m utilizing all of these fun and needed features, I could never go back to my jug feeder. This records every feeding, time, amount fed in grams etc. and stores it in the app. Now I can take this to the vet in a few more weeks to make sure that everything is right for my cats diet, and then he can give me accurate feedback …

Amazon Reviewer Heather wrote a detailed explanation of this feeder’s pros and cons:

… For our household, it’s been an absolute life saver. We’ve got 2 cats on extremely different diets. If they switch food, one gets bladder stones, the other has a severe food allergy and vomits/has bloody diarrhea. Our solution up until now has been timed separate feedings.

Pros:

  • You can fill it up and your cats can graze as they please!
  • If one is a great grazer and the other is a chonk, perfect! You can portion out chonk’s food accordingly.
  • Sleek design. No cords to worry about plugging in. No concern for power outages when you’re away. Also makes it easy to grab and move the whole thing to the counter when filling.
  • You can connect it to the hub and change settings on the app. Incredibly helpful for our sneaky one.
  • Wet food stays fresh longer! It seems to seal and maintains its moisture well.
  • It’s been pretty easy to clean so far. Wet food doesn’t try out as much to get glued on.

Cons:

  • Price = ouch. Add up 2 units plus a hub and it’s a decent chunk. (Would do it over and over again!)
  • Scales don’t seem to be super accurate. (Meh. No big. Tells you when it’s empty and that’s good enough for me. If it needs to be precise for your baby, easy to zero the tray and do it on your kitchen scale.)
  • Batteries, both a pro and a con. Changing batteries is annoying. With that being said easy to purchase some rechargeables.
  • I find the separate bowls a bit small. One can (5.5 oz) of wet food just barely fits.

Can You Put Wet Food In An Automatic Cat Feeder?

You can put wet food in an automatic feeder – provided it can accommodate it. Different feeders are designed for specific purposes. Some automatic cat feeders are only intended for dry kibble, while others are made for a mix of wet and dry or wet food alone.

It’s essential to buy a feeder that suits your needs. If you buy a feeder made for dry food, it won’t dispense wet food very well. At best, it’ll eventually get dirty and gross, and at worst it may get jammed and actually break. So, when you’re looking for an automatic cat feeder for wet food, be sure to check that it can accommodate your kitty’s favorite dinner.

How Do You Keep Wet Cat Food Cold In An Automatic Feeder?

Whether you’re using an automatic cat feeder or a plain old bowl, wet food needs to be kept at cooler temperatures. If wet cat food becomes too warm, it’ll dry out, making it difficult for your cat to digest (not to mention kinda gross and unappetizing).

Generally, automatic cat feeders have an internal cooling system to help keep wet cat food cold and fresh. However, inexpensive models or feeders designed for wet and dry food rarely include an internal cooling mechanism!

Some automatic cat feeders (like the Cat Mate above) can be used with ice packs to help keep your cat’s food fresh and retain its natural moisture.

It’s important to check on Smokey’s food occasionally, as it won’t be very appealing when the ice pack warms up, and his food dries out.

How Long Can You Leave Wet Food In An Automatic Feeder?

Cat feeders used in conjunction with ice packs will generally stay fresh for around 6 to 8 hours.

If you want to lengthen the time the food stays cold, you can refrigerate or freeze your cat’s wet food before placing it into the feeder. Then, when the food has cooled down, you can add the ice pack to keep it cool for a little longer.

For cat feeders with an internal cooling system, your cat’s wet food should stay cold for around 8 to 12 hours, depending on its features. Some automatic cat feeders can keep food cool for about a day before it gets warmer, and some will only keep your cat’s food cold for a few hours.

I hope this post has helped you find the perfect feeder to keep your cat happily fed and to make your life a little easier!
