How to Choose the Best Cat Hammock
Here are a few things to keep in mind when deciding which cat hammock is best for you:
- Size of the hammock and if it will fit the window where you plan to install it
- Your cat’s weight – I never took physics, so if there’s some formula to this I don’t know about it, but make sure you factor in the force of your cat’s jump. For example, if the hammock supports 20 pounds and your cat weighs 20 pounds, that may sound like it will work. But when your cat jumps up on the hammock, they’ll probably both goes crashing to the ground.
- Your cat’s size — In addition to knowing if the hammock will support your cat’s weight, make sure it will comfortably support their size, especially if they like to stretch out quite a bit when they sleep.
- Fabric — Consider whether you want fleece, nylon, cotton, or plush. Most, if not all, of the hammocks listed in this post have a removable, washable cover.
- Mounting — Do you want your hammock to use screws, suction cups, velcro, or some combination? (For example, when we bought our cat hammock, my husband said there was no way he was trusting suction cups, no matter how positive the reviews were.)
- Style — Once you’ve narrowed it down, make sure to choose one that has a look you like and that goes with your house.
Are Cat Hammocks Safe?
They are if you do it right.
Make sure you follow the installation directions carefully. (In particular, if your hammock has suction cups, make sure that you clean the window and suction cups well.)
Also make sure that you’re not attaching the hammock to a broken or damaged window, and that the hammock is designed to hold your cat’s weight and then some.
Why do Cats Like Looking Out Windows?
Well, it could be they have some secret reason that we’ll never know, but here are our best guesses:
- Cats are curious by nature, and let’s face it, your living room probably gets boring after a while, especially compared to an outside world of birds, bugs, and squirrels.
- Sitting by certain windows might give them a great patch of sunlight.
- They could be protecting their territory, especially if there are dogs wandering around near your house.
Interestingly, it sounds like even outdoor cats enjoy looking out windows and sometimes prefer it to going outside. Maybe it gives them a view of the great outdoors while having them also feel safe.

It supports cats up to 40 pounds and includes a super-soft orthopedic foam pad covered with removable, washable faux-leather

There is a removable heating element, similar to a mini heating pad, that reviewers say is “just enough” and appropriately safe.
A 2 inch window sill is required.
Reviewers loved how this perch was “super easy” to install, although one reviewer suggested making sure you leave enough room between the window and the base for the cover to go over and tuck in.
Amazon Vine Voice Omar Siddique says this is the best kitty window seat he’s been able to find, even though it isn’t perfect:
My kitties love window-seats, and I’ve been looking for replacements for their worn-out “cat napper” hammock-style seats, and also looking for a way to keep them comfortable during the cold months. So far, this is the best seat I’ve found, though it’s not perfect.
Pros:
* Cats like it, though it’s not their #1 favorite bed (it varies from #2 to #4, out of 6ish possibilities)* Firm, doesn’t sag with use.

The biggest overall negative was the smell of the material. The ongoing negative is one of the legs falls off regularly, startling the cat using the bed (and the bed sags a little without the leg support). It is either molded wrong or needs a better retaining mechanism. At some point I’ll probably just superglue the leg onto the bed…

Canadian Amazon reviewer Cobenzl says they really like this hammock’s design for several reasons:
- It folds up against the window… This allows you to close your blinds and was the reason I purchased the product.
- You can remove the cover without uninstalling the whole thing.
- The top suction cups are ingeniously designed. They comprise of a suction cup covered by plastic cup and turnable knob. Turning the knob presses the air bubbles out.

It’s made of Oxford cloth cord, which is designed to keep your cat from overheating due to its air permeability. Want to make it cozier in the winter? Just add a little mattress or blanket.
Reviewers were impressed with how easy this hammock was to put together and with how well the suction cups held. (One person said they had two pound cats and the suction cups stayed completely intact.)
LSAIFATER Cat Hammock Window Seat
This window hammock comes in two sizes (medium and large) and two color options (brown and gold). Between its big suction cups and iron and steel support, it can hold up to 50 pounds.
