Sure, you want your cat(s) to have the most awesome places to play, sleep, and just hang out.
But … you also kinda don’t want your home or apartment to start looking like a pet store or cat shelter.
Or worse, like your parents’ carpeting from 1972.
Fortunately, you don’t have to choose. They are plenty of modern and stylish cat towers and beds out there. There are even pieces of furniture specially designed for concealing a litter box.

Modern Cat Trees & Towers
Vesper Walnut Cat TreeFrontPet Modern Cat Tower with Built-in Food and Water BowlsPetpals Paper Rope Cat Tree CondoMade4Pets Modern Cat TreeCatry Wooden Cat Tree Condo with Natural Sisal Rope Scratching Post
Indoor cats still have the instinct to climb up high and check out their surroundings. It makes them feel safe, gives them exercise, and is kind of like giving them their own “room,” which is especially helpful if you have any kitty conflict going on.
Oh yeah, and cats also have the need to scratch things … and of course you would prefer that it not be your couch.
Here are 5 cat trees that both you and your kitty will love.
Catry Wooden Cat Tree Condo with Natural Rope Scratching Post
Wooden Cat Tree Condo with Natural Sisal Rope Scratching Post
This cat tree condo is 30 inches tall and 16 inches wide. It’s made out of high quality particle board and natural jute fiber. It combines two platforms for relaxing and a condo for sleeping.
One big plus is that the velcro mats are removable and washable, so they don’t get smelly, coated in fur, or — worst of all — flea-infested.
One concern about this condo is that the bed may not be able to hold a very large cat. But according to Amazon reviewer C. Penn, it’s not necessarily just for small kitties:
My cat is a large bodied cat and is a little chunky (fluctuates between 14 and 16 lbs). This tower fits him well. He curls up well both inside the box and up top on the bed. He’s a curling up sort of cat, not a sprawling out cat. If he were a sprawling cat, this might be a bit small for him (though he does like draping himself over the edge of the top portion).
The height is perfect for seeing out of our windows too (not obnoxiously tall, just medium height and simple).
Made4Pets 6-Level Cat Tower with Hammock
Made4Pets 6 Level Cat Tower with Hammock
Okay, let me just start off by saying that the photos of cats hanging out in the hammock are totally cute.
Assembly for the tower is fairly easy. It will probably take you between 45 minutes and an hour. The tools you need are included, and each piece is clearly labeled.
Reviewers liked how this tower was well-made and easy to clean.
wrote a review clearly laying out the tower’s pros and cons:
This is one of the best looking and high quality cat condo/trees that I have purchased and trust me, I have made many a cat furniture purchase.
The Good:
Easily one of the best looking cat trees as the wood and parts are high quality and well made.
Pretty. I know, this may sound shallow but most cat furniture is god ugly and an eye sore. This unit is sleek and very IKEA-ish.
Easy to put together but I must say, and this is me, the instructions could have been in a larger font. They were very well indicated but the font is tiny for these 40+ eyes.
The Bad:
You may have stability issues if your cats are not too graceful or heavy on their uplift to the levels. I easily remedied this with a heavy dumbbell or kettle bell on the base. Easy fit and you may not have this issue if your cat is an easy jumper or does not frantically try to claw up on the sisal columns which may made it less stable.
Overall, for the price, you could not do better. I have a similar cat tree from another manufacturer that is $100 more and it is not worth it, In fact, after I bought this one and the other brand, I quickly ordered another unit of this model.
Petpals Paper Rope Cat Tree Condo with Scratching Post, Perch and Interactive Feather Toy
Petpals Paper Rope Cat Tree Condo with Scratching Post, Perch and Interactive Feather Toy
This paper rope cat tree has kind of a “papasan chair feel” and has a bit of a Bohemian vibe.
It has both a condo and a perch, with a a fleece pillow and dual sisal posts.
It’s 29 inches tall and 19 inches wide. That makes it the perfect height for being next to a window or french door and a small enough size that you can scoop it up under its basket and carry it from room to room.
It also has the plus that it doesn’t take up much floor space, making it great for small apartments.
It claims to hold even large cats up to 20 pounds.
You do need to assemble this tree, but don’t worry; many reviewers said that assembly was very easy.
FrontPet Modern Cat Tower with Built-in Food and Water Bowls
FrontPet Cat Tower with Built-in Food and Water Bowls
This tower is probably the most modern-looking one on this list. There are two things that make it stand out:
- The wood is unfinished, so if you like you paint or stain it any way you like.
- There is a built-in food and water tray at the bottom.
A possible downside to this tower is that there are no condos or hammocks for your kitty to crawl into, so if your cat likes to climb inside things, this may not be the best choice for you.
At first glance it looks (well, at least to me) like the tower is bare wood, but there are 4 carpet mats for the platforms.
Vesper Mordern High Base Walnut Cat Tree
Vesper High Base Walnut Cat Tree
This cat tower comes in 3 styles: oak, walnut, and black. Personally like the walnut one the best.
It has a cube with multiple exits for your cat to play or hang out in, soft memory foam cat bed cushions, and multiple scratching posts. It’s 50 inches tall and the square base is 22 inches on each side.
If you’re like me and assembly-challenged, make your life easier by search for a YouTube video that helps explain how to put this one together. Oh, and you might want to shut the door to your room so the cats don’t drive you crazy while you try to put it together!
There were a few reviewers who said they needed to spend some time coaxing their cats with food and catnip spray to climb on the tower, so don’t be discouraged if your cats are wary of it at first.
Amazon reviewer Sonia W. raved about this cat tree and explained why it’s superior to traditional, carpet-lined cat trees:
I LOVE THIS kitty tree! It is a VERY sturdy durable piece!
… The other completely carpeted kitty trees I have bought in the past may have more seating options and other cute little cubbies and such, but these never hold up for long and become loose and wiggle over time and you can’t tighten them. You have to just throw them out. The other ones are also a real pain to clean with that carpeting all over them not to mention how messy the carpeting looks after being scratched over time.
This one is not as tall as those other carpeted ones I have bought, but my kitties don’t seem to care. It is sturdy, of great quality and has not had to be tightened even once since I bought it about a year ago now. I love it and it looks more like a piece of furniture.
The little mats are attached to the sitting areas by velcro and could be removed if needed for cleaning. I have just simply vacuumed the mats and have not had the need to launder them. (I would think soaking them instead of putting them in the washer would be a better option mostly because of the velcro.) If kitty gets rid of a hair ball, I simply wiped it and cleaned it with a wet rag.
The cubby area may seem to be a bit small for my older larger cats, but they still fit in it and love it this way. I added a little blanket to make it more comfortable for them on the sides that are opened so they are not resting on the hard edges. They also love the sitting areas with the soft thick mats. I even bought one for my daughter’s kitties! You WON’T be disappointed! You will never buy another carpeted kitty tree after owning this one!
One thing worth noting about the Vesper Cat Tree is that it is probably NOT a good choice for large cats — they might have trouble fitting in the condo.

MEOWFIA Premium Felt Cat Bed Cave
This cozy cat bed 16 x 16 x 10 inches (see link below for the larger size) comes in five different colors: Dark grey, light grey, slate grey, aquamarine, and a black-and-aqua combination.
It is made on Merino wool, so not only is it soft and flexible, but it naturally repels odor, dirt, and stains. You can vacuum the bed periodically to remove debris and hair, spot clean it with cold water and a cloth, or hand wash and air dry if ever needed.
(And here’s a trick: put a small piece of fleece or a towel in the bottom of the bed. That way you can remove the towel and wash whenever you need to, instead of having the wash the entire bed.)
The cool thing about this is that there’s too ways a cat can use it:
Necoichi Cat-Headed Scratcher Bed
Necoichi Cat-Headed Scratcher Bed
I’m sure you’ve noticed that cats like to climb in boxes — so why not give them a bed that’s a box?
This two-in-one bed and scratcher measures 14.2 x 14.2 x 5.9 inches (click here for the larger size) and is shaped like a kitty head.
Reviewers were impressed both by how nice it looked in the living room and how much their cats loved it. In fact, a couple reviewers said they had to buy a second bed because their cats were fighting over it all the time!
Fhasso Luxury Bamboo Wicker Cat Cave Bed
Fhasso Luxury Bamboo Wicker Cat Cave Bed
To me, this is the cat bed that looks the most like stylish home decor. (It’s also more expensive than the other beds listed here.)
This bamboo basket covered bed has an outer shell for protection and a soft, plush cushion inside. The machine washable cushion cover zips off for easy maintenance.
It measures 17.8 by 13.8 inches and is for cats up to 10 pounds.
Amazon reviewer NMW loved how beautiful and easy to clean this bed was:
This piece is a work of art! It’s gorgeous! One of my favorite parts is the high gloss interiors. It is so easy to wipe clean but it is a stunning contrast to the pale linear matte outer surface. The edge where the two materials meet is clean and precise. I was worried with it being a handmade product it might have a handmade crafty feel. It has the feel of every artisans spent a long time cutting, subduing, polishing, and painting to make this piece have a level of perfection close to a machine made product, but with the warmth of a man made product.
It came securely double boxed in a very secure double corrugated material. A large canvas drawstring bag contained the bed and it reminded me of buying a high-end purse. You can store it or you now have a nice laundry bag.
… it has far exceeded my expectations, that were sky high to begin with. Thank you for making beautiful cat furniture that it seems my cat will love.
Some reviewers had issues with the cushion sliding around when the cats stepped inside, which one reviewer solved by putting this inside the bed.
Petpals Paper Rope Round Cat Bed With Pillow
Paper Rope Round Cat Bed With Pillow
This homemade paper rope bed also comes in a rectangular size, but I prefer the round one in the above picture better.
It measures 17 by 17 by 5 inches and accommodates cats up to to 10 pounds. Reviewers were impressed by how nice it looks and how well made it is.
Interestingly, some reviewers said their cat enjoyed this bed more when the cushion was removed.
Modern Furniture that Hides Litter Boxes
Good Pet Stuff Hidden Litter BoxLarge Wooden Cat Litter Box Enclosure CabinetNew Age Pet ecoFLEX Habitat N’ Home Litter Loo
Where to put the litter box – especially if you have multiple cats — is always a bit of a tricky issue.
The main living area? Gross. The bathroom? Not much room. The basement? An older cat may not be able to regularly take that walk.
Well, here’s a neat solution — furniture that hides the litter box! To the unsuspecting eye, it look like a simple night table or tree planter … but it’s really a way to keep that litter box hidden, as well as provide your cat(s) some privacy when they do their business.
New Age Pet ecoFLEX Habitat N’ Home Litter Loo
This multi-purpose end table and litter box cover measures 23.5 by 18.5 by 22 inches and doubles as a place to put plants, lamps, or knick-knacks.
It’s made of “Ecoflex,” which is described as a non-toxic blend of recycled plastic and reclaimed wood.
It’s easy to assemble and no tools are required.
Amazon reviewer Alessandra Vasyuta calls this piece of furniture “a life- and sanity-saver”:
… I was a little hesitant to spend so much cash on something like this, and I actually plan to build a bigger one out of plywood for a different room, but this was ultimately a fantastic decision. I use puppy pee pads along the walls of this container because it is not watertight, and he still does manage to miss the box. However, there is virtually no smell in the small office where I have this, and the cats actually seem to do better using it. It definitely means that my bathroom is now a bathroom again, and the cats have a much more sanitary and comfortable place to go. I have three cats in total, and they seem to be much more relaxed and happier – the enclosed box I had before was simply too small for them. This is so much bigger, and they can see out and get fresh air while going. I think this was a good choice for their comfort and health, never mind my convenience.
It is also helpful that it can also be used as something to put things on. I have this in my office, so I add books on the top of it, and it is close enough in color to the rest of the room that you almost overlook it as a cat box container. The only issue I have is that there is not enough space with the litter box to lay down those cat litter mats. I have them outside the box, and they do catch most of the litter, but I just wish that even the standard size was a little bit bigger. Since the cats jump directly out of the box and through the front hole to the outside, there is no place for the litter on their paws to go until they land on the mat …
… Overall, I really recommend this box. It is a very, very good solution to the problems that I faced, and would definitely work in a small apartment or house.
See the photos for how I tape up the pee pads to catch my cat’s spills outside the box. It really helps, because this box is by no means watertight, and protects my dark hardwood floors.

Best Choice Large Wooden Cat Litter Box Furniture
Best Choice Large Wooden Cat Litter Box Furniture
This litter box cabinet, with dimensions of 34 by 21 by 20.75 inches, is perfect for large cats or households with multiple cats. It has an internal divider to reduce to spread of loose litter, which has be removed to place a large litter box inside.
There is a small entryway built into the side of the cabinet to give cats easy access. The cabinet doors are magnetic to make it easier for you to get inside and clean.
It takes about an hour to assemble and all the tools you need are included.
Amazon reviewer Tracey says this is a great litter box, but highly recommends an important trick that she learned from other reviewers:
I purchased this litter box about 3 weeks ago and it arrived within days instead of the expected week. That was very nice! … So I pulled it all out of the box and read over the instructions. All pieces were present and in perfect shape. The instructions were so clear and easy to follow, I was shocked! I was able to put it together by myself with very little struggle and everything fit together as it should.
I purchased this because I have two cats, a male and a female. The male loves to leap out of the litter box when he’s done and sling kitty litter everywhere. We had just moved to a nice new apartment that didn’t exactly have a convenient spot for a litter box that would keep it out of the way…so finding this item was perfect!
Once it was all done, I used a sealer on the inside to seal up all the seams and keep the inside watertight for potential messes (alot of reviews recommended this and they weren’t wrong!). After letting it sit and dry for 24 hours, it was ready to set up for the cats. I had a large covered litter box that, after removing the cover, fit inside the bench just fine with extra room left over …
Since it is recommended that you don’t use this as an actual bench because it may not hold up to the weight, I can say that it has been sat on and doesn’t even creak so it is very sturdy (could definitely hold a child) but still not really meant to be a seat. It’s kinda low to the ground anyway so it looks like a child’s bench. To keep anyone from sitting on it, I simply have the cat’s food and water bowl on top and the kitties love that, too. I have a laundry/mud room that this sits in and the white goes well with my washing machine/dryer and the white trim. Everyone that has looked at it has commented on how cute of a bench it is and everyone has been surprised to find that it’s a litter box!
Bottom line: This product is easy to put together, very well made, and is an attractive way to hide your litter box. The little entryway room inside definitely cuts back on the scattering of kitty litter and has made my clean up much easier. It is easy to clean the interior when a mess has been made (BE SURE TO USE THE SEALER TRICK…IT WILL KEEP IT WATERTIGHT AND MAKE YOUR CLEAN-UP QUICKER AND EASIER!) and will hold even a large litter pan for multiple cats. I highly recommend this item for quality, purpose, and asthetic. 🙂
Good Pet Stuff Hidden Litter Box
Good Pet Stuff Hidden Litter Box
This litter box is also designed for large cats and multi-cat households, but it’s a totally different concept. It doesn’t hold the litter box — it is the litter box!
Made of plastic and measuring 20 by 19.75 inches, it comes with an attractive plant, decorative moss, and dust filter. All you need to do is add the litter, and it just looks like you have a planter in the corner of your room.
Amazon reviewer sjdrz26 raves about this litter box, but said it needed some simple DIY improvement to make it perfect:
I’ve literally never written an Amazon review in my life, but I felt like this was a necessary item to review! Basically, if you’re thinking about ordering this litter box, DO IT!
My house is a small 1000 sqft home that’s obviously low on living space, let alone a designated area for a hideous cat litter box. This hidden cat litter box has been an absolute answer to my prayers! I turn the litter so that the entrance is completely unnoticeable and guests have been floored when I tell them that it’s actually the litter box!
Now I do have to admit, the original color that it came in is ugly as sin and matches nothing in my house, but that’s nothing a little spray paint can’t fix!
Also, I was not willing to dump the cat litter directly into this litter box because I hate how gross the litter boxes get – I’m a huge clean freak. So I did some research on Amazon to find a round basin (much like what they use on farms to put animal feed in) and I happened to find one that fits absolutely perfectly inside this hidden litter box! The name of the basin I ordered through Amazon is the Vrinda® Plastic Economy Round Basin (18 Inch) .. make sure you get the 18 inch basin (it’s the red one and if I remember correctly, its only about $20) because there’s more than one size choice for this product, and the hidden litter box is like 18.5 inches in diameter, so the 18 inch fits very well!
Then I just put one of those litter bags (like a garbage bag but sized for cat litter) in the basin, tuck it over the edges, tie it tight around the outside and then fill it with litter! Ill never use a regular old litter box ever again in my life!! The cats took to this new litter box immediately and we haven’t looked back since!! AMEN!
