Hi, I'm Jen!

I’ve lived in a multiple cat household for over twenty years, ever since my husband and I found a black stray cat in the bushes near our apartments and said to each other, “We’re not ready for kids yet, but do you think we’re ready for a cat?”

Two weeks after we adopted her, we discovered that she was pregnant.

 We now have three cats — a grey tabby, an orange tabby, and an orange and white Norwegian forest cat.

We’re also “cat grandparents” to our daughter’s cat, a toitoiseshell (or “tortie”).

Over the last twenty-plus years as cat owners. we've:

  • Watched kittens being born in our laundry room;
  • Adopted a stray cat that followed my husband and son home from a walk when they were visiting relatives in Florida;
  • Rushed a cat to the ER when we discovered a pool of blood near the litter box (sadly, to have him die of a urinary blockage a few days later);
  • Given fluids to a one year kitty with advanced kidney disease;
  • Taken in a foster cat;
  • Learned how to keep one of our cats from shredding our newest cat to pieces;
  •  Mourned the death of a kitty way too young; only to have a stray kitten literally show up at our back door on Thanksgiving two weeks later.

Gingie

Gingie

Gingie is our very fluffy Norwegian forest cat. He was a gift for our then-eleven year old daughter.

Even though Gingie is a boy, he was named after my mother, who had just been placed in Hospice care at the time.

Cookie

Cookie is our, um …. feisty grey tabby cat. He makes it quite clear that he does not enjoy vet visits and he does not enjoy

Sandy

Sandy

Sandy is our newest resident, and was almost literally a Christmas present. We took him home about 4 days before Christmas, when we learned that a friend’s relative couldn’t keep him.

Sandy’s a very “chill” cat — he didn’t even make a peep during the 30 minute drive to our house.

Snickers

When one of our dear kitties died suddenly from an urinary blockage, word must have spread among the kitty community that there was a vacancy.

The very next week we were visiting relatives in the North Carolina mountains, and about an hour after dinner there was a meowing at the kitchen door.

After a few years, one of my daughters moved out and took “Snickie” with her, but she still deserves to be on this page.

Do you have a cool cat that you want me to feature?

I’d love to start writing about other cat owners and their stories — and their photos!
